New Year 2017 Assam State Festival Calendar Holidays

The south eastern border of mountain himalayas lies the indian state of Assam receiving thousands of visitors to the Kaziranga National Park and the Manas National Park the famous World Heritage Sites. Fame for wildlife, Assam is the guardian for single-horned Indian rhinoceros from extinction apart from other wild animals like wild water buffalo, pygmy hog & tiger.

The state Governor of Assam dictates the Assam Public Holidays 2017 adapted under the Negotiable Instrument Act 1881. Leaving specific holidays, Sundays too are taken as holidays in Assam. The ministry of home affairs notifies all public holidays of assam in coordination with the Government of India.

Almost all holidays celebrated in Assam are relied on religious & cultural beliefs. Alike other states of India, Assam do observes 3 National Days comprising Republic Day, Indian Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti.

Assam observes festivals of different religions and diverse tribes. It celebrates festival of colors of every tribes with high gusto and enthusiasm. The main festival of Assam is Bihu in 3 forms like Bohag Bihu or Rongali Bihu in April, Magh Bihu / Bhogali Bihu in January & Kati Bihu or Kongali Bihu in October / November. Certain other festivals observed are Tea Festival, Dehing Patkai Festival, Majuli Festival, Elephant Festival, and Brahmaputra Festival.
